...for a low carbon, socially just, happier and healthier future.
If you care about sustainability, the environment, or human rights, and have ideas about how to make Sussex more sustainable, then come along to one of our meetings!
Sussex in Transition to Sustainability gives different cooperatives, campaigns and green societies on our campus, such as Scoop, Roots, Brown Bag Organic, RE:Cycle, Scoop, and Roots a platform. We host regular meetings that bring these groups together, to share skills and knowledge and to combine our efforts to make the University and our campus community a more sustainable place.
We have previously hosted meetings to discuss sustainability on campus and often go to talks, as well as hosting our own, about topics around sustainability. If you have an idea about how to make our campus more sustainable, we can come together and work on making that idea a reality! We also have socials to get to know and build a network of like minded people on campus and beyond!
Sussex in Transition members also run the Sweatshop Free campaign, asking our university to step up and eliminate sweatshop conditions from their electronics supply chain. Please sign our petition here. This was our main focus last term, but we are a cooperative society, so our focus will depend on the interests of our members.
Members of this group won Outstanding Student Led Campaign in 2017 and 2018 for the work of the Fossil Free Campaign, which persuaded the University to move their investments out of Fossil Fuels. We announced in February 2018 that Sussex had moved to a more sustainable investment fund, which excludes any investments in Fossil Fuels.
