Welcome to Swing Dance Society!
Shortlisted for Outstanding Society of the Year at the 2017 Student Awards!
Swing Dance Society is a society for anyone who has an interest in swing, lindy hop, Charleston and jive dancing, beginner or otherwise!
*Teaching and Performing*
We are the place to go to on campus to learn how to dance, through our weekly-term time course taught by a professional dance teacher and free practice sessions run by the SwingSoc committee.
We are a very friendly, popular and encouraging society, we welcome everyone, so please don't hesitate to come along to one of our sessions! We also host many opportunities for performing with the society at both university-based and external events.
Furthermore, we also host a whole range of socials throughout the year, both non-alcoholic and otherwise. These have ranged from Ice-Skating, Masquerade and Summer Balls, Laserzone, Glo-Balls, Pizza & Movie Nights and lots more, with suggestions always welcome!
SwingSoc is proud to support the Students' Union Safer Space policy. We strive to provide a friendly, welcoming environment during our events, meetings and socials in which everyone can feel happy in. The Safer Space policy seeks to enable equal participation by challenging oppressive and discriminatory behaviour - for more information please click here.
*Community and Inclusivity*
Finally, our society also has a long history of working in the wider community, dancing at older people's homes and community events, and fundraising for local mental health and survivor's charities.
All of our classes, sessions and events operate in a safe-space, discrimination-free zone. Whether you are a complete beginner or have been dancing for years, we hope to see you on the dance floor soon
