Sociology Society

Welcome to the Sussex Sociology Society!

The Sociology Society isn't just for Sociology students, it's a society for everyone and anybody. Aside from studying the interactions of human beings and how society functions, we also have plenty of fun whether you’re a first year, second year and third year. It is FREE to join our society, so please click the checkout button! We’ve also got a Facebook, Twitter and Instagram which are listed to the side which will give up to date information on upcoming events and more!
Some info about us: The Sociology Society has been set up again in 2017 by a group of current first year Sociology students in an attempt to restart the society which had ended at the end of last year. Although we are a new society, we have lots of exciting event ideas!

Some events we are planning…

  • Socials
  • Debates
  • Film nights
  • Panels
  • Talks
  • And more!

We also welcome non-students to the Sussex Sociology Society for a taste of what Sociology at Sussex has to offer. You are able to join as an associate member through creating an account, paying any additional fees set by the students union (£30 usually, £15 for students/unwaged, free for Brighton students) and joining the membership as usual. You are also able to contact us here for more information about joining or about the Sociology Society. This can be done through either messaging the Facebook page directly, or emailing us at sociology@societies.sussexstudent.com. You can also contact our welfare and inclusitivity officer directly by emailing: ms869@sussex.ac.uk. Also follow our social media pages to keep up to date with events!

Hopefully see you all very soon!

Leaf Awards

What is the Leaf Scheme?
Leaf awards reflect contributions of the society or sports club towards its members, the University of Sussex Students’ Union, the University of Sussex, the local community and the public. Leaves can be attained at bronze, silver or gold levels by meeting three, six or nine criteria. Leaves apply for an academic year as a symbol of what the present committee have achieved.

Groups can work towards nine leaves:

Below are the Leaves that have been achieved by previous committees:

Inclusivity Leaf

The Inclusivity Leaf is awarded to groups who have taken positive steps to increase the diversity of their membership and include as many members as possible. They have made specific efforts to include students that don’t traditionally engage, without ignoring or neglecting their current membership or other student groups.

Social Leaf

The Social leaf is awarded to groups who have taken active steps to include as many members as possible and regularly engage in various social activities, including those organised by - and with - other societies/sports clubs.
