Welcome to....

PoleSoc is an inclusive society, welcoming people of all ages, genders, sexuality, religious persuasion or any other backgrounds. If you have an accessibility question, please do get in touch via email - we would love to have you and will try our best to accomodate any additional needs(We operate under a Zero Tolerance & Safe Space Policy here).

Everyone is welcome to come along, build their self confidence and be amazed by what they can achieve with just a bit of practice and encouragement. Our society allows people with similar interests to meet in a friendly environment and learn how to pole dance in a way that wont break the bank. It is the perfect way to throw out everyone's preconceptions of pole dancing and prove that it's a fun way to get fit, meet wicked people and have a great time at uni.

As a society, we teach our own classes on campus. We are run for students and by students, so people can learn cheaply and safely and have fun doing it! Our lessons are held on Mondays and Fridays during term time (if you get a place, you will be assigned a class and informed of the time and location). Our classes have a structured format which allows students to learn new moves, practice old ones and work towards performances if they're interested. We also make an effort to include strength and flexibility conditioning for those looking to progress in these areas. Classes are divided by ability to make sure everyone gets as much pole-time and attention as possible. Your safety, comfort and enjoyment are the most important things to us.

Throughout the year we also provide many opportunities for our members to perform what they've learnt, both as part of our own charity fundraising showcases and as guest performers at events run by other societies on campus.

Our overall aims are to promote strength, flexibility and pole but most importantly to promote confidence and have fun!

So come along and give us a try!

Leaf Awards

What is the Leaf Scheme?
Leaf awards reflect contributions of the society or sports club towards its members, the University of Sussex Students’ Union, the University of Sussex, the local community and the public. Leaves can be attained at bronze, silver or gold levels by meeting three, six or nine criteria. Leaves apply for an academic year as a symbol of what the present committee have achieved.

Groups can work towards nine leaves:

Below are the Leaves we have achieved so far this year:

Inclusivity Leaf

The Inclusivity Leaf is awarded to groups who have taken positive steps to increase the diversity of their membership and include as many members as possible. They have made specific efforts to include students that don’t traditionally engage, without ignoring or neglecting their current membership or other student groups.

Social Leaf

The Social leaf is awarded to groups who have taken active steps to include as many members as possible and regularly engage in various social activities, including those organised by - and with - other societies/sports clubs.

Community Leaf

The Community leaf is awarded to groups taking practical action in the service of others to create positive change. This can be through involvement with activities and events on campus, but they will also have made an impact on the wider community by engaging with activities, campaigns and events at a local, national or international level.

Team Sussex Leaf

The Team Sussex leaf is awarded to groups who have made efforts to encourage collaboration and mutual support between Students’ Union groups. Groups who achieve this award have worked in collaboration with other clubs and societies to support a welcoming, inclusive and friendly team environment within clubs & societies at Sussex.

Fundraising Leaf

The Fundraising Leaf is awarded to groups who dedicate their time to organising a variety of different fundraisers. Groups who have achieved this leaf will have raised money for their own group or another group at Sussex to help fund themselves to expand and develop, as well as for local, national & international.

PoleSoc have been awarded the silver events leaf award by the Students’ Union in recognition of their exceptional ability to organise and hold events (2015)

PoleSoc have also been awarded the silver social leaf award by the Students' Union in recognition of the fun and engaging social activities they put on for their members (2015)

PoleSoc have been awarded the bronze inclusivity leaf award by the Students’ Union in recognition of their positive efforts to increase membership within their society and include as many members as possible (2015)
