Who we are and what we do

With over 100 students studying here at the University, Nigerian students make up one of the highest community of international students in Sussex. Hence, the Sussex Nigerian Society provides a platform to support Nigerians and those interested in the African culture. It encourages academic excellence and the acquisition of leadership skills essential for the development of Africa. Through our activities, we showcase the culture and values of Nigeria and Africa; assist new students in settling to the University. The society provides a platform through which Nigerians in the diaspora can re-connect with their culture. Our activities target all nationalities, this way, promoting the message of diversity preached by the University.

Where we meet

Often, we have our meetings through our Facebook group. Periodically, we hold meetings in the meeting house on campus.

Upcoming events

We had a fantastic Welcome event in October 2015, and we have a pack of activities for the 2015/2016 session; starting with a Peace Night in November to promote peaceful coexistence, tolerance and friendship; Monthly debate series themed "The Thin Line". Watch out for our Re-Launch party coming, tournaments on Football, Tennis, Playstation 4 FIFA 16 and board games coming up soon. Mark February on your diaries for a talk by a Nigerian scientist on how their research in Nigeria is likely to lead to Cancer breakthrough. Wish to learn how to cook a Nigerian dish and many more social and cultural activities?
