SUSSEX WOMEN'S HOCKEY
Winners of the Student Union Club of the Year, there really is no better club to join than Sussex Women's Hockey.
We are strong on and off the pitch. Being part of Sussex Hockey will allow you to build friendships that will last forever and have the most incredible time during your time studying at Sussex University. We have always had 2 teams in BUCS, the 1s being in South Eastern 2A and 2s in South Eastern 4A. However, this year for the first time ever, we have a third team in BUCS! We really do have a team for everyone, whether you have played hockey all your life or have only just started.
Outside the three main teams we also invite club members to train with us and work towards joining one of the teams. We ask for commitment, attendance and fitness as well as someone who isn't afraid to have fun. We play to win, but no one could win all by themselves so there is a very strong team ethic and we encourage and facilitate everyone's progress and support our girls in every aspect of their life.
Hockey is open to everyone. We celebrate the diversity within the club and welcome anyone to come and give hockey a go, even if you have never picked up a stick in your life!
The club offers opportunities for both experienced and new club members. Everyone is welcome from any year group, whether you are looking to compete in a team or if you just want to learn the rules and how to play then come along and try it out. We also offer an hour of fitness training a week for everyone so that we can keep running circles round our opposition.
Team Training: Monday 6-8 pm
Fitness/Club Training (open to everyone and all abilities): Friday 1-3 pm
Active US session (all welcome, cost: £1): Friday 1-3 pm
The club has a brilliant social side, going out weekly every Wednesday after the day's matches. Every week is a different fancy dress theme and lots of fun. The socials are a great way to get to know each other better and bond as a club. You do not have to be part of the squad to come, anyone is welcome, the more the merrier!
We also go on TOUR around Easter with ILOVETOUR which is an incredible experience. It's a great opportunity to get to know your team mates even better and take our legendary fancy dress international.
Each year we nominate a charity to raise money for throughout the year. This year's charity is Mind Brighton and Hove. Mind works to promote good mental health across Sussex. Many students suffer mental health problems during university and it is a stigma we would very much like to break. We will be taking part in: the Brookes 10km, Tough Mudder, Brighton half marathon, along with other events. We are hoping to raise over £1000 so please get involved where possible!
