Doctor Who

University of Sussex Doctor Who Society logo

Welcome to the University of Sussex Doctor Who Society minisite! Here you'll find information about the society and the committee, as well as important details about our upcoming events.

The Doctor Who Society, or DocSoc for short, was started in 2012, and rapidly grew to be a successful society with over 200 members on Facebook and around 30 people at each episode viewing.

We watch and discuss the world of The Doctor, including both the classic and new series, as well as spin off media such as Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures, and the Big Finish audio dramas.

Please join our Facebook group, where we post most of our organisational details. Also check out our Twitter and Instagram accounts for other interesting tidbits.

If any non-students want to get involved in our society, you are completely welcome. Our society is free to join, and although we generally meet on campus we also hold some events in town so hopefully it should be easy to come to at least a few of our meetings. If you have any questions about joining our society as a non-student, please feel free to contact our Inclusivity Officer, Tim, at tjbf20@sussex.ac.uk.

We also have a new members' mentor scheme. If anyone would like to meet a current committee member before coming along to one of our meetings, we can arrange that for you. Feel free to contact either our Inclusivity Officer (tjbf20@sussex.ac.uk), our general email checked by the Lord President (doctorwho@societies.sussexstudent.com), or any of the committee members (Andrew Gow, Nicolas Wilson, Benjamin Cowdell, Susanna Fantoni, Alex Maraio or Tim Foulkes) on Facebook.

From a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, we look forward to seeing you yesterday. The whole of spacetime is at our disposal, so we aim to enjoy the ride!

Leaf Awards

What is the Leaf Scheme?
Leaf awards reflect contributions of the society or sports club towards its members, the University of Sussex Students’ Union, the University of Sussex, the local community and the public. Leaves can be attained at bronze, silver or gold levels by meeting three, six or nine criteria. Leaves apply for an academic year as a symbol of what the present committee have achieved.

Groups can work towards nine leaves:

Below are the Leaves awarded to the Doctor Who Society so far in 2017/2018:

Inclusivity Leaf

The Inclusivity Leaf is awarded to groups who have taken positive steps to increase the diversity of their membership and include as many members as possible. They have made specific efforts to include students that don’t traditionally engage, without ignoring or neglecting their current membership or other student groups.

Events Leaf

The Events leaf is awarded to groups who have demonstrated an exceptional ability to organise and hold events on a regular basis. Such groups have also made the effort to hold joint events with other societies/sports clubs and/or the Students’ Union and the University.
