Concert Band

Welcome to University of Sussex Concert Band

We are a woodwind and brass band who welcomes anyone from Brighton's community, including: Undergraduates, post-graduates, staff members, mature students, non-students and past members.

We started 10 years ago and mostly play music from films, TV and musicals including: Pirates of the Caribbean, The Incredibles, Phantom of the Opera and The Lion King. This year we are trying some new genres including Jazz where we will be playing pieces such as Tower of Power and Atchafalaya.

We are non-auditioning and welcome players of any standard to join in on rehearsals and our concerts. We usually host 2 concerts a year one just before Christmas and one around Easter. If you would like to get involved then please contact us.

We also hold socials throughout the year including: bowling, nachos and cards in Falmer Bar and Pub nights and Christmas Dinner. Everyone is more than welcome to join lf you would like to here about our socials then join our Facebook page here

We are aiming to make this year bigger and better joining with many of the other performing arts societies to host a pub crawls, a showcase and biggest event in our calendar the performing arts ball

Rehearsals will be every Friday from 6:00pm-8:00pm in Meeting House.

There will be a small fee of £10 for the year. This help us towards buying new music and equipment including stands and folders.

If you have any suggestions for how the band should be run then feel free to let me know your suggestions.

Vice President and Welfare and Inclusivity Rep: Chloe Boyd ccmb20@sussex.ac.uk

The Vice president is the President right hand person, they are there to make sure the society runs smoothly and steps up if the President is unable to be present at rehearsals/concerts.

The welfare rep is one of the most important roles, they are the first point of contact to resolve issues between members or committee. They will keep the information as confidential as they can so please contact them with any issues no matter how big or small.

Secretary: Tom Brady tb249@sussex.ac.uk

Music consultants: Emma Coggins ec424@sussex.ac.uk and Maddie Levis m.levis@sussex.ac.uk

The music consultants decide on which music we will be playing each term and the programme for our concerts they also liaise with the treasurer if any new music needs buying. If you have any suggestions for music then please get in contact.

Concert band practises a zero tolerance policy. This means at rehearsals and concerts our members and audience can feel safe with no threat of discrimination. This policy means that if someone breaches this understanding then they will be asked to leave. For more information click here.
