Highest BUCS Ranking Ever For Sussex

The University of Sussex has ranked 39th in the 2016-17 BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) league tables. This is a very important moment for Sussex, as it is the first time we have ever gained a top 40 position (out of a whopping 154 colleges and universities), making it the highest rank ever achieved by the university.

This incredible feat is down to the hard work and training from our various sports clubs. The university participated across 18 different sports, with multiple teams winning the title and others achieving finalist status:

Title Winners

  • Badminton Women's 1st (Promoted to Premier League)
  • Football Women's 1st
  • Hockey Men's 2nd
  • Netball Women's 2nd
  • Ultimate Frisbee Men's 1st
  • Rugby Men's 1st
  • Rugby Men's 2nd

Cup Finalists

Adèle, Activities Officer, has this to say about this year’s success:

I am incredibly proud that Sussex is ranked 39th in BUCS this year! It's the first time we have achieved such a high ranking. Our sports clubs can be rightfully proud of their fantastic achievement.

Sussex’s Ultimate Frisbee Men’s 1st Team successfully sealed their fourth BUCS Outdoor Nationals which means Sussex now hold claim to the more Ultimate University Open Outdoor titles than any other UK university. This win completed a successful season in which the team were undefeated in regional BUCS games as well as achieving a silver medal win at the BUCS Men’s Indoor Championships.

Please visit the Students’ Union’s sports, societies and media page for more information about how to get involved with a Sussex sports teams, or drop Adele an email, activities@sussexstudent.com.

Well done and congrats to everyone who took part this year – keep up the good work!
