Student Community & Go Green/Fairtrade Fortnight Funds Announced

This term: Sarah, Society and Citizenship Officer, has announced two brand new funds to help you organise an event or project to benefit communities in need, or raise awareness of Go Green week and Fairtrade Fortnight.

These funds could provide you or your society with the springboard needed to start something amazing. So get involved, be part of engaging your local community!

Student Community Fund

Have you seen a community in need in Brighton and Hove? Do you want to make a difference and have an idea to do so? This fund can help you to make it happen!

The Students’ Union Community Fund aims to support student-led initiatives to make positive changes in the local community to benefit other students and non-student residents.

The fund is available to any student (or group of students) to make a difference in their community, help others, bring people together and share ideas and experiences.

It could be a conservation project, a street party, art workshops, youth work or anything that benefits the community - a one-off event or a longer term project - whatever you decide to do, this fund could help!

Sarah, the Students’ Union’s Society and Citizenship Officer, has expressed her excitement at the launch of the funding:

“It's really exciting to be able to provide students with access to a pot of money to do something positive in the local community. I'm sure there are lots of ideas out there to make Brighton and Hove a better place to live and I can't wait to see what ideas people come up with! “

The Students’ Union Community Fund also supports the Know My Neighbour initiative in Brighton to encourage neighbourliness through sharing creative ideas of friendly activities to get know those that live closest to us. Check out their website for some fun ideas of things you could try.

You can download the proposal form, or check out the guidelines for applications here. There is no set deadline for applications.

Go Green Week and Fairtrade Fortnight Fund

Want to put on an event during Go Green Week or Fairtrade Fortnight? Students' Union Green Fund Applications are open!

This is available to financially support student groups/societies/individuals who wish to put on an event to support Go Green Week and/or Fairtrade Fortnight. If you would like your event to be included in the Students’ Union promotional material for Go Green Week please submit your application by the beginning of 30th January. Otherwise please submit your application by the 6th February.

If you would like to bid for funding, please complete BOTH the ‘Event Proposal’ section and the ‘Funding Application’ section of the Green Fund/Fairtrade Fortnight Events Proposal Form, then email the whole document to environment@sussexstudent.com.
