Statement on recent tweet

Last week, the Students’ Union’s Twitter account, @USSU, tweeted that "The Students' Union Executive has collectively agreed that we #supportbaharmustafa and the right of liberation groups to self organise". The Students’ Union recognises and supports minority groups organising events solely for those who self-identify as members of that group. However, this tweet was posted prior to a decision being made by the the Executive Committee.

Because of this, the Students’ Union’s Executive Committee has instigated disciplinary proceedings against the Full-time Officer who made these remarks without following due process. The Students Union have also suspended the officer in question’s use of the @USSU twitter account.
