Has the student diet taken its toll? Does crossing campus now seem like a monumental task? Looking to turn over a new leaf in 2015? Here are some simple and cost-effective ways to help your mind and body love 2015:

Get active

Change your fuel

  • Falmer Bar, East Slope Bar and The Globe all have healthy and affordable menu options and their menus can be accessed online.
  • Both the Co-operative and Union Shop have healthy and affordable shopping options, you can check their opening times online.
  • Our market is full of great wholesome produce, cost-conscious wholefoods and it convenes every Tuesday outside Falmer House from 9am until 6pm.
  • Our Sussex Shoots society produces locally-grown vegboxes for either £3 or £5. These boxes can be collected from Falmer House Reception on a Friday and ordered online.
  • Take part in Dry January, cut down on alcohol-related calories and feel healthier. A study by the University of Sussex's Psychology department shows that the health benefits of not drinking during January stretch further than just being healthier for one month.

Mind your mind

  • Student life can be stressful. Physical activity is good for your body but also good for your brain. Don't spend every day inside; use study breaks to walk/run/cycle/stretch.
  • In 2013 we signed the 'Time to Change' pledge and we have a lot of information about our mental health campaign on our website, as well as documentaries and an online 'zine.'
  • If you feel you need to talk to someone, the University has a Student Life Centre where you can book an appointment and talk to a trained professional.
  • The University has a lot of information about wellbeing online.
