Impact report for 2014-15 released

The Students’ Union has published its impact report for the past academic year 2014/15.

The impact report summarises some of the key achievements of staff, elected officers and 13,500 members that have been part of the Students’ Union during the last twelve months.

"Our students have had some great achievements over the last twelve months, and the Students’ Union has helped along the way, as evidenced in the Impact Report. I'm proud to be part of such an engaged, passionate and diverse community."

Some highlights from the report include:

  • Nearly 2000 students attended the Welcome Sunday party during Freshers Week

  • The Women’s Rugby team raised funds to train coaches in Uganda

  • Sussex Records hosted a day-long music festival across campus

  • Over 800 students took part in the Buddy Scheme which matches new students with current students to help them settle in at university, up from around 300 last year

  • Our bar staff helped launch a new coffee shop, Room 76, and created East Slope Ale in collaboration with a local brewery

  • The Your Voice, Your Choice campaign encouraged Sussex students to register to vote in the recent national and local elections

  • Students’ Union representatives successfully negotiated a reduction in day bus ticket prices for students from £4.70 to £3

Referenda results announced

A referendum is a direct vote in which all full members of the Union are asked to either accept or reject a particular proposal on a range of questions put forward by students at Sussex. Students are asked to vote “yes” or “no” to a particular question; the outcome of which shapes the Students’ Union, ensuring that it is student-led
