Thursday, 14 May

Today in their daily meeting with the University, your Officer team discussed the following:

  • Students who are meant to be going on a year abroad in 2020/2021.The Officers raised that there has yet to be clear information available for these students. In response to this, one of the Officer team will now be attending the committee which will be discussing year abroads. There is a survey here for students to feed in on this topic.

  • The team asked if once labs open, MA students would also be able to access them alongside PhD students. The University stated that for the time being the labs would only be accessible to PhD students.

  • The Officer team will also now be working closely with the University to develop clearer information to signpost students to mental heath services both on campus and within the local area. The team hope to be able to provide clear diagrams and resources to help students access these services during and beyond Covid-19.

  • They also asked for an update on the temporary body storage facility on campus. The University said that this is yet to be used, and within the current climate, they do not foresee that it will be used. This is of course subject to change.

  • Finally, the Officer team heard that there have been discussions around the possibility of students who have been unable to access labs during the pandemic being able to return to campus after they have graduated, in order to gain skills they may have missed out on. The Officer team fully supports these positive moves towards knowledge compensation, and hopes to see further exploration of such ideas in the future. The team will continue to ask the University to consider forms of knowledge compensation where students may have been disadvantaged by the pandemic and loss of access to campus.
