Cup Winners 2020 | Historic victory

Women's basketball team Basketball women's team

March resulted in a historic day for our sporting history. Five teams made the finals in their cups  - with all five emerging victorious.

Massive congratulations to Basketball Women, Squash Men, Squash Women, Table Tennis and Tennis Women - who all won their cup finals.

Sussex Students' Union Sports Clubs have had a fantastic year this season and are currently ranked 45th in the country, an improvement from 61st the season before.

Here are some thoughts from those who were involved in the big day:

Veronika Márová Basketball Women Team Captain -

"And then it came! 11th March 2020, the BIG final game! Both teams, Sussex and Kent, made their way to the neutral zone (Surrey) and faced each other in the game for GOLD. During the match there was a lot of running as both teams focused on strong press defence. However, our girls strengthened up and dominated the game with the final score of 85:63 and became the cup champions of the 2019/2020 season.  On top of that, the team remained undefeated the whole season and is first in the league as well and is being promoted to the 1st division for the next season."

Nikki Kelana Chia Tennis Women Captain -

"We’ve had a wonderful season, and securing indoor tennis courts at Virgin Active Brighton for training played a large part in our road to being BUCS Southeastern Cup Champions! This is a first for Sussex Tennis and it has been an honor to lead the team to achieve such great results! I’m really proud of the girls and I’m glad our efforts have paid off."

Well done, everyone!
