DEADLINE HAS NOW PASSED
As part of my manifesto pledge, I wanted more students to have the opportunity to gain skills outside of their studies. With the kind support of the schools (see below), we've agreed to offer 26 full bursaries to students to enrol in extra-curricular language courses, run through the Sussex Centre for Language Studies.
The following schools have agreed to sign up for three open language school bursaries for their students:
Maths and Physical Sciences (MPS)
Education and Social Work (ESW)
History, Art History and Philosophy (HAHP)
Engineering and Informatics
Sussex Centre for Language Studies (SCLS)
Media, Film and Music (MFM)
Law, Politics and Sociology (LPS)
and the Foundation Year school have agreed to two bursaries.
This means that if you're from one of these schools you can apply to study a modern language offered by the SCLS open school for FREE. Students who successfully apply will receive a bursary of up to £235 for a course of their choice. Courses include Arabic, Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish, British Sign Language and many more. You can find out more here: http://www.sussex.ac.uk/languages/ml/opencourses
If you are a student at one of the schools mentioned and you wish to apply for a bursary, please complete this form .
We are especially looking for students from BAME, International, Faith Communities, liberation groups and other marginalised student communities, however the bursaries are available for all students in the respective schools.
The deadline for applications will be on the 1st October 12pm, we will respond to your application within 24 hours. The courses begin on the 7th and generally have two time slots available, one at lunchtime and one in the evening - so should be appropriate for most students.
