RE:CYCLE expansion

Launched last year as a Union society, RE:CYCLE Sussex hired out bicycles to forty-eight students over two terms in 2013/14, who were a mix of home and international, undergraduate and postgraduate students. This costs just £20 for the term.

As well as hiring out bikes, RE:CYCLE organise bike confidence sessions, cycling lessons, and actively campaign for better cycling infrastructure in and around Brighton.

This month, there has been a massive boost for the project, as the Students’ Union has agreed with the University that RE:CYCLE will now have access to all abandoned bikes locked up around the campus, which will be repaired and ready for Freshers Week. There are an estimated extra 130 bikes that will now be available for hire from September 2014.

Lynsday Burtonshaw, Activities Officer said:

I am really excited about the expansion of RE:CYCLE Sussex. After starting the society in my second year, I never thought it could get this big.

Cycling is a great way of keeping fit, reducing our carbon footprint, and a great way of socialising.

I am looking forward to seeing the project grow so hundreds more students can get to campus on their bikes.
