What are the Student-Led Teaching Awards?

The Student-Led Teaching Awards are your opportunity to say “thank you” to staff who have made a difference to your experience of teaching and learning at Sussex by nominating them for an award. Students are also involved in reviewing the nominations and agreeing the winners of the awards.

Last year over 310 nominations were received, leading to 77 staff being recognised for their hard work and commitment to teaching and learning through the Student-Led Teaching Awards. You can find a full list of winners from previous years on the ADQE webpages.

The Student-Led Teaching Awards are a partnership between the University of Sussex Students’ Union and the University of Sussex. The whole process is driven by students, as they nominate and eventually decide who gets the awards.

You can nominate any member of staff you feel has made a difference to your teaching and learning experience at Sussex. This could be a member of teaching staff, support or professional services staff in your school, or a department such as the Library and IT Services.

There are six categories of award available:

  • Outstanding or Innovative Undergraduate Teaching
  • Outstanding or Innovative Postgraduate Teaching
  • Outstanding or Innovative Assessment and Feedback
  • Outstanding Support for the Learning Experience of Students
  • Outstanding Professional Services Support for the Learning Experience of Students
  • Outstanding or Innovative Contribution to Sustainability in the Curriculum

How do I nominate?

Nominating someone is easy via the nomination form.

All you need to do is tell us which staff member you wish to nominate, along with some supporting comments. The supporting comments are really important as the nomination cannot be considered without them (for some guidance on what comments should be included in your nomination, please read some of the “Quotes from successful nominations” on the ADQE webpages).

You can nominate as a group of students (so long as you list everyone’s name on the online nomination form). You can even nominate a whole team of staff if they have made a difference to your teaching and learning!

More information on the Student-Led Teaching Awards can be found on the ADQE webpages.
