This Sussex Girl Can

There will be various events across campus including:

  • All Active US sessions will be free for all women to attend (excluding swimming)
  • A “This Sussex Girl Can” social media competition, just tag #ThisSussexGirlCan to enter
  • There will be blogs and vlogs from women in sport throughout the week, which you can find on the Active US website and Facebook page. 
  • Inspirational talk from Susie Chan and Elise Downing, details of which can be found here. Book online here. 
  • University of Sussex’s first ever Zumba Step Class! All participants will receive a FREE “This Girl Can” t-shirt. Book online here. 
  • During this week, if it is your first time you can join in on a Martial Arts session for free 

 

 

Come and watch some of our Womens sports teams, representing the University of Sussex at BUCs, on Wednesday 9th Nov. Fixtures include:

At Sussex Sports Centre:

  • Badminton 1st team v King’s College London at 2pm
  • Fencing 1st team v University of Surrey at 2pm
  • Squash 1st team v Imperial College London at 2:30pm

At Falmer Sports Complex:

  • Football 2nd team v Brunel University at 2pm
  • Hockey 1st team v Portsmouth University at 2pm
  • Rugby 2nd team v Portsmouth University at 2pm
  • Table tennis 1st team v Royal Veterinary College at 12:20pm

Adele, activities officer, is excited about celebrating this week:

 "I am a huge supporter of this BUCS girl can week. Nothing should stop women from being active, and certainly not the fear of judgement. It doesn't matter how sweaty you get, how unfit you are or what your ability is all that matters is you taking part. Women can and with pride."

Following a key victory in Sunday’s Varsity competition that helped Sussex establish an early lead over neighbours Brighton, Sussex Women’s Badminton were straight back on the court on Tuesday against national university league leaders Loughborough in their cup final, which sadly ended in defeat by the tiniest of margins.

An excellent Varsity performance from the Sussex teams saw them secure victory over Brighton in a win that sees us claim our fourth consecutive Varsity title!

Supported by the home crowd: Sussex recorded several big wins throughout to ensure we came out as victors at the end of the day.
