Sussex wins Varsity 2019

After a year's hiatus Varsity is back, and it's now jointly hosted by Sussex and Brighton. After four weeks of fixtures we won Varsity 2019 by 11 - 7.

The four weeks of Varsity 2019 saw 18 fixtures played across 11 sports. On Wednesday 27 March, after two hockey matches and two lacrosse games, Sussex retained the Varsity Cup.

Sussex Students' Union Activities Officer, Becky Doran, said:

"Thank you to all the players who made this happen, it's been amazing watching passionate people represent us and do the University proud. Another huge thanks to all the staff members who put in countless hours to pull this off, you are true heros of student sport.

I am fully aware that a series of events is not what all students would like but this event coming back in any form is a huge win and took over a year of discussions between both Universities and Students’ Unions. For next year, I'll fight to get more sports reinstated and for a way for families to come along and watch".
