Following a petition from students, all students will be able to vote at the end of the month on two potential new Part-time Officer roles. The questions will be:
Should the Students’ Union create a role for a First-Generation Scholars Part-Time Officer?
The First Generation Scholars programme is a bursary scheme for students on the £9,000 fee regime whose household income is less than £42,875 per annum. A First-Generation Scholars Part-Time Officer would sit on Students' Union Executive and Council and represent the needs of First-Generation Scholars within the Students’ Union and to the University.
Should the Students’ Union create a role for a Non-EU International Students Part-Time Officer?
A Non-EU International Students Part-Time Officer would sit on Union Executive and Council and represent the needs of Non-EU International Students within the Students’ Union and to the University.
If you wish to campaign for or against either or both of these proposals please email email@example.com before midday on Friday 20th May. This allows you to write an argument supporting your viewpoint which will be published as part of the referenda and the option to use Union-funded publicity materials to try to persuade students to vote to support your viewpoint.
175 students signed a petition asking for a referendum on these topics. Any student can create a petition asking for a referendum. Find out more at www.sussexstudent.com/petitions
You can find out more about the referenda including rules for campaigning and key dates at www.sussexstudent.com/referenda where students will be able to vote from Monday 30th May to Friday 3rd June
