Your comments on the Loop this month

Each month your full-time officers get together to look at what comments you have submitted to the Loop over the past month. These are categorised into what is going well, what is going less well, and ideas for improvement.

Several comments were made about buses to and from campus, in particular regarding their high cost, lack of reliability and that they are frequently over-crowded. This feedback matches a lot of other comments that have been made by students, and your Student Union President has been working alongside student campaign ‘Late Again B&H’ to lobby the bus company to make improvements.

Students also wrote how the library is often overcrowded, and that they would like to know where more study spaces are on campus. Undergraduate Education Officer, Ella, has compiled a list of all your favourite study and social spaces on campus so that you know all the places available to you, and has also mentioned whether or not they have hot water facilities and/or microwaves.

Several students submitted concerns through the Loop about the lack of content warnings on seminar readings that contain sensitive and potentially distressing topics. This has come from students from a variety of academic schools and courses meaning it is not an isolated issue. Your officer team are keen to ensure that all academic schools follow best practice around content warnings, and will be meeting with university staff to raise their concerns and see how these can be more widely implemented.

Officers are also responding to comments that maintenance staff in university accommodation are not always knocking before entering, and will be speaking to the housing department to ensure that all staff know that they must knock before entering a students’ accomodation.

Your comments on the Loop are also anonymously shared with the relevant University departments where applicable, and we will update you on any action the University decides to take based on your feedback.
