Volunteering

Volunteering is an enjoyable way for you to make a difference, provides a fantastic opportunity for you to develop key skills for your future career and to check out possible career paths. On top of that it’s a great way to make new friends, to do something different from your studies and to get a different perspective of life.

We offer you the opportunity to volunteer in a wide variety of locally based organisations and community projects as well as for the Students' Union.

There are lots of options to choose from and we will help you find the volunteering placement that is right for you so contact us for more information.

► Information for University departments

Volunteers Project V, part funded by Sussex Plus, is very keen to work with University departments to develop volunteering opportunities that benefit the local community and provide students with skills relevant to their degree course and future career. We have worked with the Sussex Language Institute to provide volunteering opportunities for students visiting from Hong Kong, and also work with the International Summer School on a yearly basis.

Matching and advice service

We can provide advice on a vast range of local volunteering opportunities. Simply guide students to our student webpages and we will do the rest! However, we're also open to staf who would like to volunteer in the local community.

Talks

We can provide short and informative talks to your students about the benefits that volunteering can bring. This includes dispelling some common myths that are held about volunteering and bringing into focus the need for work-relevant skills development. The International and Study Abroad Office invites Project V every year to chat to students about volunteering in Brighton, Hove and Lewes. If you think some of your student would benefit from this as well, just get in touch.

Project Development

We can work closely with departments to develop new projects that enable students to develop specific skills and experiences. This can involve linking up with a community organisation to develop a project that brings benefit to both community and the students.

Outreach days

This is a new service that Project V offers. Each academic term we will keep 2 days free to visit community organisations as well as University departments, or for community organisations/ University departments to visit us.

The purpose of the outreach days is to build and renew strong relationships with organisations and University departments and Project V.

DEPARTMENT LEAFLETS

Project V created University Deparment Leaflets to show how students of the different courses can get involved in volunteering. Please refer students and other work colleagues to those leaflets to promote volunteering.
