What one of our volunteers said...

"When I received the email about being part of the Welcome Team, it was an opportunity that I couldn’t refuse. I was just about to go into my third year, and I knew that it would be my only chance to do it, and a great way to start what promised to be a challenging year. And I was right. After a very fun and relaxed interview process, I was really excited to be told that I would be part of the team.

"It would be impossible to pinpoint a particular favourite moment because the whole week was a brilliant experience. The Barn Dance was a definite highlight; wild dancing and watching people eat pies at speed makes for a fantastic evening! Brightonian Nights was awesome too - having to lead about 70 freshers through the streets of Brighton without losing anyone was difficult, but so much fun. I didn’t stop laughing the entire night.

"It was a really intense week, but so rewarding. One girl I met on the pub crawl was feeling really homesick, so I arranged to meet her the next day on campus. I told her that I was exactly the same in my first week and that it would get easier. It was so nice to think that I made her feel a bit better about it.

"The main thing that I have taken away from being on the Welcome Team is some genuinely good friends; I still keep in touch with nearly everyone that I was on the Team with. I would recommend the experience to anyone who is up for a challenge, meeting new people, and lots of fun!"
