Volunteering

Volunteering is an enjoyable way for you to make a difference, provides a fantastic opportunity for you to develop key skills for your future career and to check out possible career paths. On top of that it’s a great way to make new friends, to do something different from your studies and to get a different perspective of life.

We offer you the opportunity to volunteer in a wide variety of locally based organisations and community projects as well as for the Students' Union.

Front of House team member

Our Front of House team respond to students' enquiries via email, over the phone and in person at our Falmer House Reception. This is a great role for people that enjoy talking to and helping people. Our reception area can be a bustling place with a lot of variety. 

The role gives you the opportunity to get to know the Students' Union and provides the potential to get involved in areas of the Union that may interest you. As with all of our volunteering opportunities, there is lots of scope for your input, ideas and creativity!

About the role

The purpose of the role is to be the first point of contact in the Students’ Union, dealing with students’ and other visitors’ enquiries as appropriate and to complete administrative tasks as required by the Students’ Union. Our Front of House team are supported by the Union Volunteering Coordinator.

Time Commitment

Term-time only 10-4pm (2 hour shift every week) plus monthly 1:1 meetings with the Volunteer Coordinator. Although the minimum time commitment is 2 hours per week (term time only), you can put in as many more hours as your timetable allows!

Main tasks & responsibilities

  • To provide a helpful, open and welcoming environment for visitors to the Students’ Union
  • To answer telephone calls and emails and refer as appropriate or take messages
  • To direct visitors to relevant Students' Union services and/or provide written information in relation to thhe Students’ Union and University, travel information and external agencies/organisations
  • To take room bookings for Falmer House

This role would suit you if you are
