Volunteering

Volunteering is an enjoyable way for you to make a difference, provides a fantastic opportunity for you to develop key skills for your future career and to check out possible career paths. On top of that it’s a great way to make new friends, to do something different from your studies and to get a different perspective of life.

We offer you the opportunity to volunteer in a wide variety of locally based organisations and community projects as well as for the Students' Union.

There are lots of options to choose from and we will help you find the volunteering placement that is right for you so contact us for more information.

Information for organisations

Currently there are over 42,000 students volunteering in England, but with your help we can make it more!

About our service

Project V is the 'Student Community Volunteering' Scheme at the University of Sussex, part funded by Sussex Plus. We are based in the Students' Union and are a student-led scheme. We have two full-time members of staff and internal volunteers who provide leadership and direction to our activities.

We are primarily a brokerage service. This means that we recruit students to volunteer in existing volunteering opportunities in the local area. However we also organise one-off volunteering opportunities throughout the year - for example in the past there have been taster days at Moulsecoomb Forest Garden and Wildlife Project, the National Trust and the East Sussex Countryside Management Service.

Benefits of Registering

By registering with Project V you will be assured promotional space for your organisation within the University. Through our ‘matching and advice’ service we enable students to make informed choices regarding their volunteering. We provide ongoing support for students to make a valued contribution to your organisation. We will also advertise your volunteering opportunities on facebook.

We can offer you opportunities to come on campus and recruit students on site with a publicity stall. We also advertise your volunteering opportunities to all Project V members via the e-bulletin and facebook.

We also organise outreach days for registered organisations to talk about new ways of how we can collaborate together.

Working together with the University of Brighton

The information on your volunteering opportunities will be shared with Active Student (the volunteering service at the University of Brighton) so that potential volunteers at both universities will be able to find out about the opportunities you have on offer.

Placement Visits

We need to ensure that our students are volunteering in placements where they will be supported, valued and kept safe. Once a student is interested in volunteering with you, we will be in contact to arrange a placement visit. In this meeting we will talk about the different ways that we can collaborate now and in future and how we can best support your organisation in volunteer recruitment.

How to Register

Fill in the volunteering opportunity form, Service Level Agreement and Placement Checklist. Please return all 3 documents to Project V. Please take the time to read our guidance notes before completing the form. You may also find our frequently asked questions and guide to best practice helpful.

PLEASE KEEP A COPY OF ALL THE PAPERWORK YOU SEND US
