If you have any questions, concerns or problems - or you just want to let us know how much you enjoy your volunteering - let us know!
All organisations registered with Project V will pay for your travel expenses – so you won’t be out of pocket for your volunteering.
You will automatically become a member of Project V, as soon as you choose your volunteering placement. However, you can become a Project V Member even sooner by emailing volunteering@sussexstudent.com and telling us that you would like to become a member. You will then receive our weekly email bulletins with news of upcoming projects and volunteering opportunities
You need a 'Tier 4 Student Visa' in order to be able to volunteer in the UK. Unfortunately, if you are visiting Britain on a 'Student Visitor Visa' only, you will not be able to undertake any volunteering activity.
If you're not sure which visa you have, please contact the University of Sussex International and Study Abroad Office for advice - 01273 678422 or e-mail migration@sussex.ac.uk
You can have a look through our list of opportunities to help you start thinking about the sort of volunteering you'd like to do. You can also find out more about volunteering for the Students' Union.
Once you've had a look, the next step is to book an appointment with a member of the Project V team. Whether you've made your mind up or don't know where to start, we will give you all the help you need to choose and arrange the right volunteering placement.
We have an information area with more details about the organisations we work with and a computer you can use to browse our website. The Project V team will be on hand to answer any questions you may have and help you to find the perfect opportunity.
When you have started your volunteering, we strongly encourage you to get in touch with Sussex Plus. Sussex Plus offers you to create a webfolio (online CV) where you can showcase your skills and achievements. You can scan in certificates and links to web pages, include photos and details of projects you've completed. Take part in Sussex Plus to bring together your academic achievements, work experience and personal life.
We also have information about volunteer development and support online.
We also celebrate the achievements of our volunteers at our annual awards night.
You can also become a fan of Project V on facebook. Project V is the name of the Students' Union community volunteering scheme (part funded by Sussex Plus). We can help you choose a volunteering opportunity in the Brighton & Hove area. Our staff provide ongoing support throughout your volunteering time.
