The Students' Union has a wide range of volunteering opportunities in sport and look for students throughout the year who would like to get involved.
Active for Life: A non-profit project run by Brighton & Hove City Council and the Primary Care Trust. Volunteers work with different groups e.g. children, young people to increase participation in sport.
Woodingdean Youth Centre: A youth centre that offers a wide range of activities for young people. Volunteers are particularly needed to help qualified youth workers put on Football sessions for young men aged 13-16.
Spiral: A community organisation that provides a range of activities for adults with learning disabilities. They need volunteers to help the service users get the most out of the different sports on offer – which include: swimming, basketball, tennis, cricket and ten-pin bowling.
Hove YMCA Sport: Provides a wide range of activities for children and young people aged 5-18yrs, the aim being to provide positive sporting activities that are fun and carried out in a safe and supportive environment.
Brighton Youth Centre: Volunteers assist on the Brighton Youth Centre skateboarding project, coaching young people 8 - 19 years old at the Centre's indoor skate park. Volunteers assist the skateboard project staff in the delivery of the activity and assisting young people in their development. Sports and youth club sessions are also run at the centre.
You will receive full training from your placement in order to carry out your role, plus ongoing support from the Students' Union. If you are aged between 16 and 25, you can get accreditation for your volunteering hours through Brighton and Hove Volunteers.
How much time will I need to give? Most organisations ask for about 3-4 hours per week
