Societies

Societies are groups of students with a shared interest. We have around 150 societies and if there’s something missing, it’s easy to start your own.

Different societies do different things and run in different ways. Some are focused on one big project per year, others have regular meetings, some organise activities that anyone can come to, others focus on organising things for their members, some societies are quite small, others are huge.

All societies are open to anyone and you can join societies throughout the year so take a look at what is on offer. Make sure you keep an eye on the list of societies as new ones start up quite regularly.

About us

What we do

We support a wide range of societies; academic, arts & performance, community action, cultural identity, social action, specialised interest and spiritual & religious.

Joining a society is a great way to meet people, learn a new skill, keep up an existing interest, gain some experience and have fun!

We provide advice and support to students that run societies.

Our team

Samreen Faria, Union Volunteer Coordinator provides support to societies along with other staff and volunteers.

Full-time elected officer

The Activities Officer, Scott Sheridan, represents students views to improve the opportunities available to students. He also chairs our Activities Committee which makes decisions about societies such as approving new groups and allocating funding.
