The first step to joining a society is to get in touch with them either via email or by popping along to one of their meetings. Contact details and more information about each society are available in our A-Z list of societies.
You can join societies online at www.sussexstudent.com/membership. The membership fee (if there is one) goes directly to the society to contribute towards their events and activities.
Once you've joined a society contact them to let them know you're a member, turn up to events or meetings and get involved! Make sure you hold the committee to account, they're responsible for ensuring that members enjoy being part of the society and that the society does what it says it will.
Most societies accept new members throughout the year so don't worry if you've missed Freshers Week as it's never too late to get involved.
If you're not a student you can become an Associate Member of the Students' Union. This costs £10 (£4 for students at other universities/unwaged or free for University of Brighton students). This then entitles you to join our sports clubs and societies. You can sign up as an Associate Member using our online membership system.
Our online membership system at www.sussexstudent.com/membership allows you to join as many sports clubs and societies as you'd like and pay online or at our Box Office in Falmer House.
URF, our radio station have made a short video to explain how to join them but the process is the same to join other societies too;
You'll already have an account on our website if you've been a member in the past, bought tickets from us, subscribed to our Freshers newsletter or handed in a Freshers Fair sign-up sheet.
You can use these links if you've forgotten your log-in details;
If you're still having problems logging in please email j.c.walters@sussex.ac.uk
If you've never used our site before you can create a new account with any username and password.
Hopefully you'll have a great time as a society member but if for any reason the society/societies you join don't deliver what you believe you were promised please let us know.
We suggest that you try to resolve the issues with the society's committee, it may be that they didn't realise you weren't enjoying it or that they have some new stuff coming up. They should be eager to hear your suggestions and feedback and you might be able to get involved in implementing them.
If you are not happy with the outcome of talking to the society committee or would rather not talk to them, please let us know.
If you wish to make a complaint about how you have been treated by a member of a society or about the activities a society is undertaking, please make a complaint using our complaints procedure.
