Environment

The Students' Union is committed to protecting the environment and is involved a variety of projects and activities to raise awareness about environmental issues and support sustainable initiatives.

For the last to years we have been awarded a Gold ‘Green Impact’ NUS award for our efforts to reduce our ecological impact.

We have an elected part-time Environmental & Ethical Officer, supported by the full time Operations Officer. The role of the Ethical & Environmental Officer is to liase between students, societies, the Union and the University on all things ethical and environmental, and to push forward new policies and ideas for sustainability. We also have four Ethical & Environmental Reps

There are plenty of local environmental projects that need your help, and what better way to spend a Saturday or a trip away..?

HOW?

Here are a few easy places to start:

  • Get involved with local volunteering schemes, run by the Students’ Union or in the local community.
  • Have a free holiday while supporting organic agriculture through 'Wwoofing' in the UK or abroad.

Project V
A Students' Union Community Volunteering scheme offering volunteering opportunities in the local community. Includes many environment and conservation-related projects. Brighton Conservation Volunteers

International volunteering projects:

World-wide Opportunities on Organic Farms
An international movement helping people to share more sustainable ways of living. In return for volunteer help, WWOOF hosts offer food, accommodation and opportunities to learn about organic lifestyles - www.wwoof.org

Concordia Overseas Volunteering
Their aim is “cross-cultural understanding and friendship by providing young people with quality opportunities for international volunteering, work experience, education and training”. They have several environmental projects in various countries around the world - www.concordiavolunteers.org.uk
