For the last to years we have been awarded a Gold ‘Green Impact’ NUS award for our efforts to reduce our ecological impact.

We have an elected part-time Environmental & Ethical Officer, supported by the full time Operations Officer. The role of the Ethical & Environmental Officer is to liase between students, societies, the Union and the University on all things ethical and environmental, and to push forward new policies and ideas for sustainability. 'Seven Steps to Sustainable Living' at Sussex - info, advice and guidance

Environment

Although the environmental impact of the University buildings is significant (and we are working hard to minimise this as much as possible), it's you – Sussex students – who can make the biggest impact of all by changing your daily habits and shopping choices.

A carbon footprint study carried out at Edinburgh University found that only 15% of their emissions came from from the institution itself, compared with 85% from the uni community’s lifestyle. Obviously, we can't assume Sussex is exactly the same – but it gives a fairly good indication of where we should be focusing our efforts!

We hope that by making the information, ideas and advice easily accessible we can inspire Sussex Students to live a more sustainable, healthier and happier existence! With around 12,000 students at Sussex, together we can make a pretty big difference.
