Advice

The Advice & Representation Centre  can give you free, independent and confidential information, advice and support on a range of academic and non-academic issues.

We have professional advisers and elected student representatives and the service is completely confidential, independent from the University and no issue is too big or too small for us to deal with.

The Students' Union is here to help you make the most of your time at Sussex so if there's something bugging you that you think is likely to be affecting other students as well tell us about it by filling in our online form

Statement of intent

The Advice & Representation Centre aims to provide a relevant, approachable and comprehensive student-centred service to all students at Sussex, in a non-judgmental and anti-discriminatory way. By providing impartial advice, information, support and representation on both academic and non-academic issues, we aim to enable students to address their own issues and pursue their full potential whilst at Sussex, as well as offer relevant support services.

You can expect to be

  • Assisted and advised at the earliest opportunity upon first contact.
  • Treated considerately and objectively at all times by professional and experienced staff.
  • Contacted as soon as is reasonably possible if there has been a development with your case.
  • Told about further specialist help and where it can be obtained, when necessary.
  • Allocated a designated adviser.

We expect you to

  • Contact the Advice & Representation Centre as soon as you think that you need help.
  • Arrive promptly (students more than 15 minutes late for an appointment may have to make another appointment).
  • Be considerate and honest, providing full and accurate information pertaining to your case.
  • Comply fully with the University's and Union's Equal Opportunities Policies and the Advice & Representation Centre's Code of Practice (any student who does not do so, or who uses threatening/abusive language or behaviour, will be challenged and may be requested to leave the Centre).
