Advice

The Advice & Representation Centre  can give you free, independent and confidential information, advice and support on a range of academic and non-academic issues.

We have professional advisers and elected student representatives and the service is completely confidential, independent from the University and no issue is too big or too small for us to deal with.

About us

What we do

Your time at University should be enjoyable and rewarding and not spoiled by unnecessary worries. As soon as you are aware of a problem seek help, and remember, it is never too late to ask for advice!

Our team

Our Advice & Representation volunteers look after our reception desk Mon - Fri 10am - 4pm during term time and can make an appointment with an adviser for you or direct you to the information you need.

We employ professional Advisers, Kathy O'Regan, Robert Luscombe and Cate Chapman, who provide students with impartial, non-judgemental, confidential advice, support and representation.

Full-time elected officers

The Welfare Officer, Indi Hicks, represents students' views to the University and campaigns on welfare issues and supports liberation campaigns and welfare groups. The Welfare Officer can also help you through the University's complaints procedure if you're not happy with some aspect of University life or services the University provides, and can advise you if you have a welfare-related concern.

The Education Officer, Poppy Firmin, assists in the co-ordination of the Student Representatives Scheme, represents students' views at relevant University committee meetings, and provides advice and representation upon academic issues e.g. academic appeals, academic misconduct hearings etc.

Contact us

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or if we can help in any way. We also welcome any comments or suggestions for how to improve our service.

Visually and hearing impaired students

We are endeavouring to stock a selection of our most popular publications in alternative formats for visually- impaired students. If you are deaf or have a hearing impairment and wish to speak with an adviser, please contact us so that we can arrange an appointment with you with a portable induction loop.

Information Area

As well as a private interview room where you can talk to an adviser in confidence, we also have an Information Area stocked with lots of information and reference material on a wide range of subjects.

The Information Area also has:

  • A free phone for welfare-related enquiries (eg. to the Student Finance England)
  • A computer with shortcuts to useful websites.

The telephone and PC in the Information Area are available weekdays 9am - 5pm.

Whether you are looking for something specific, want some contact numbers or just feel like browsing, you are always welcome to use the Information Area as a place to find out more.
