Part-time officers hold unpaid elected positions, which take a far smaller time commitment than full-time positions. Each position has a specific portfolio (area of responsibility), and it is the responsibility of each officer to promote that portfolio in the activities of the Students' Union. Part-time officers continue with their studies during their time in office.
All Part-Time Officers have a vote on the Union’s Executive Committee and Union Council, the role’s time commitment varies according to how much students wish to commit, as an estimate, it could be anywhere from one to five hours a week. All the roles have great opportunities to learn and develop skills, work with enthusiastic peers and change life at the University for the better.

Community Engagement Officer
The Community Engagement Officer is responsible for developing partnership working and positive relationships between University of Sussex students and other sections of the local and wider community, and for working to improve and extend the rights of students in the local and wider community.
Being elected as Community Engagement Officer will mean developing the Union’s links to the wider community. Whether it be through University or local government, volunteer groups or Falmer and Stanmer village there is so much that can be done and learnt through this role.

Ethical and Environmental Officer
The Ethical & Environmental officer works to effect change within both the Students' Union and the wider University, to ensure that Sussex is continuously reducing its ecological impact and improving its ethical standards. The portfolio is very broad, with lots of room for new ideas and initiatives, and provides plenty of opportunities for building links with students, university staff and local community members working towards similar goals. As well as working on your own projects and policies, you will also be involved in upholding the Students' Union's 'Gold Standard' NUS Green Impact Award, undertaking an environmental audit of the Students' Union, and coordinating events and activities for 'Green Week'. The Ethical & Environmental officer will also now be supported in their work by four new elected Ethical & Environmental Reps.

Media Development Officer
Student media on campus is a growing quickly and is a highly influential sphere. The Media Development Officer is a relatively new position and only in its second year. The role gives a great opportunity to effect change in one of the liveliest areas of student activity. The successful candidate will be able to engage with a broad range of students as well as lead projects and events.
Being elected as Media Development Officer will mean a chance to be involved in all student media groups, liaising with them you will have the chance to impact the widest possible section of the University community. Student media currently includes: The Badger, The Pulse, University Radio Falmer, Poda Poda, UniTV
You will also head up the Student Media Committee which meets twice a term and has two representatives from each media group. This role is great chance to build on existing skills or learn afresh how media functions and how students work together

Equality & Diversity Officer
The Equality and Diversity Officer is a part–time Officer role and is responsible for driving forward equality and diversity within the Union and the University community. The Officer will sit on the Union Executive, Union Council and involved in the steering of the relevant sub-committees. The Equality and Diversity Officer will be informed on policy issues locally and on nationally. They will further work and be supported by the Welfare Officer and the Representative Officers on campaigns and events.
