Each year, students are elected to a variety of positions within the Students' Union. This ensures that students are making decisions about how the Students' Union operates so we are student-led.
Students nominate themselves, i.e. put themselves forward and tell us that they'd like to be elected to a particular position
These students then campaign to be elected by persuading people to vote for them
Students then vote online for the person they would like to be elected. We have more details online about how to vote.
We use the Alternative Vote (AV) system to calculate the winner. This allows voters to rank the election candidates in order of preference.
We then announce the results and the winner takes up their post straightaway for some positions or at a later date for others.
Want to know more about standing for election, campaigning and being an elected officer or representative of the Students' Union? Have a little look at our thinking about being an officer or rep section (please note that the information in this section is mainly about being a full-time officer but much of it is still relevant for part-time officers and Union Councillors).
We post information about nomination deadlines, voting and information evenings for people thinking of nominating themselves at www.sussexstudent.com/events
